My 8 must-have apps as a student

1. Ziffit– This app allows you to sell your used books (and CDs/DVDs)- a perfect solution if you want to sell some used fiction books, de-clutter and get paid a bit for it!

2. Timebloc– Learning how to manage your time at university is a key skill for not just doing well academically but ensuring that you can look after yourself on the whole. This app is super useful for time-blocking your day, especially if you like to know what to be doing at every hour.

In Michaelmas term, I scheduled pretty much everything into this app, from classes to society events to ‘buffer’ catch-up periods. If you like a bit of a visual timetable, this is also really useful as the app has different icons for different types of activities and you can schedule in the exact amount of time you’ll need for each item.

In Lent term, I decided to try a different approach and only schedule in ‘events’ such as classes, meet-ups or live lectures and just work with a weekly to-do list so there is definitely room to be flexible in how you use the app. There are a lot of similar apps (like Google calendar) which also work well if you’re looking to organise your days.

3. Unidays– Discounts for students? I needn’t say more. A very good friend introduced me to Unidays during sixth-form and I would definitely recommend it to any student.

4. Temple Run– because rest is good too. On a serious note, having a game which is relatively easy and enjoyable to play is useful during the train or bus rides where I want to relax!

5. Quizlet – In contrast, if you’re looking to be productive during your travel time, Quizlet is really useful for this. I find breaking down information into little chunks helps me learn things quicker (especially if I can find a storyline to attach to the information) and a long bus or train ride can be the perfect opportunity to go through some flashcards on Quizlet. One of the things I’m aiming to do more this term is work on my French vocabulary using Quizlet!

6. TooGoodToGo – Discounted (takeaway) food from some amazing restaurants and a great way to prevent food waste!

7. LSE Student Hub – The student hub is an essential because it has your timetable plus the locations of each class. I had many moments of forgetting where certain classes where in Michaelmas Term (up till week 4!) and glancing at the app was always a helpful reminder. Plus, you can get updates on upcoming events, interesting opportunities and recommendations for what to do in London.

8. Notion (free for students)- For me, this app is note-taking on a different level. The pages are super customisable (you can also add your own code in if you like!) which makes it really easy to organise information into preferred formats. Personally, I like to use Notion as more of an organiser, for example for long-term projects but some of my friends use it to organise their university notes.

I hope this post has been useful and if you have any must-have apps for students, feel free to share them in the comments!
