The May bank holidays are one of the best times to experience London in full swing. With an extra day to enjoy the city, it’s a great excuse to explore everything from lively parties and boozy brunches to scenic coastal walks and open-air swimming spots. Whether you’re looking to dance all day, relax with friends over brunch, or head out for some fresh air, here’s how to make the most of the long weekends.

Day parties

For those who want to kick off the holiday with energy and music, the Queen’s Yard Summer Party 2025 is one of the biggest events happening in the city. Taking place across multiple venues in Hackney Wick, this electronic music festival will feature an impressive line-up of underground DJs and live acts in both indoor warehouse spaces and outdoor areas. The atmosphere is always electric and draws a diverse crowd of music lovers ready to celebrate the start of summer. Tickets are available from £27.50 and can be booked through the official event page.

Bottomless brunch

If your idea of a perfect bank holiday involves a lazy morning and good food, there are several standout brunch options worth booking in advance. For a vibrant Sunday experience in Camden or Shoreditch, Ma Petite Jamaica offers a bottomless brunch menu between 12pm and 5pm, priced at £31.50. This includes two courses—such as jerk chicken, curry goat, or sweet potato and plantain curry—along with 90 minutes of unlimited rum punch, prosecco, or house lager. With its Caribbean-inspired menu, lively atmosphere, and colourful setting, Ma Petite Jamaica brings a fun and flavourful twist to your bank holiday plans.

Another popular option is Inamo, which has locations in Soho and Covent Garden. Known for its interactive touch tables and Asian-inspired small plates, Inamo’s bottomless brunch has been voted the best in central London. On Saturdays and Sundays, you can choose from two sittings: the early brunch runs from 11.30am to 12.30pm and costs £29.95, while the late brunch from 12.30pm to 4.00pm is priced at £39.95. Both include 90 minutes of unlimited food and drinks, along with over 20 digital games built into the table experience.

Day trips from London

If you’re looking to escape the city altogether, the Seven Sisters coastal hike offers a stunning day out. Just hop on a train from London Victoria to Seaford—a journey that takes around an hour and a half. The full hike is about 13.8 miles and typically takes seven to eight hours, including breaks, with three to four hours of actual walking time. You’ll be treated to dramatic chalk cliffs, open countryside, and views of the sea, ending your journey at Eastbourne Pier where you can grab a bite or dip your feet in the water. Trains run regularly and off-peak returns usually cost around £20, making it an accessible and scenic option for a day trip.

Open-air swimming pools

If hiking isn’t your thing but you still want to be outdoors, London’s open-air swimming spots are a refreshing alternative. Brockwell Lido in Herne Hill is a beautiful 50-metre pool surrounded by a large sunbathing area. Entry typically costs around £8 and opening hours vary by season, so it’s best to check the schedule before heading out.

For a more natural swimming experience, the Hampstead Heath swimming ponds are a true London gem. You can choose between the men’s, women’s, or mixed ponds, each surrounded by trees and wildlife, offering a peaceful break from urban life. Tickets are priced at £4.80 and can be booked online in advance. The ponds are open daily from 7am until sunset, and are particularly popular during warm weekends, so arriving early is recommended.

Whichever way you choose to spend them, the May bank holidays are the perfect time to enjoy all sides of London—from its buzzing social scene to its quieter, natural corners. Whether you stay local or venture out, plan ahead and make the most of that extra day off.
