Postgrad students: why choose LSE?

Could you imagine waking up surrounded by people who have not only already achieved your dream goals, but who are also willing to help you on your path to achievement?

What if you could spend your afternoons engaging in conversations with people from across the globe before choosing from an abundance of international cuisine options for dinner?

Now picture this: a school that offers exactly that. Would you apply for this opportunity?

For me, the picture I’ve painted above is too good to pass up. That picture is why I chose to study at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and why I think you should too.  It offers what virtually no other university does – an exceptional blend of academic and social experiences.

Academics first

When most people think of attending a university, they will focus on the academic and career aspects, so let’s touch on how LSE excels there. LSE is one of the foremost universities dedicated specifically to social sciences. This is exceedingly rare, as our modern society prioritises STEM. LSE is a great place to fully  immerse yourself in your passions. It’s a place where you can take pride in  the impact social science has on the world around us.

LSE has a community of professors and mentors who value making sure that the next generation will continue their legacies and thus will provide students with the tools and experiences necessary to achieve their levels of success. Although the course load at times is academically rigorous, it’s all meant to help you grow individually while building your network of bright peers.

Culture and social connections

Now that we’ve gone over all things academic, we can move on to the social stuff. Living in London is a dream for many people. London checks all the boxes. If you’re interested in visiting museums, parks, restaurants, and venues with friends or solo – then you can’t go wrong with studying in London.

Studying at LSE is also unique because, unlike most other universities, it is not a secluded campus. Instead, I’ve noticed that my peers and I will get to go from our little academic bubble where we discuss things like a chapter we just read on the nuances of economics in our daily life, to seeing for ourselves how these nuances play out with the choices people make on the tube or at the pub. It’s great to have these isolated conversations but it’s thrilling to add our real-life experiences to this discourse.

There’s so much more I could touch on that makes LSE an exciting place for a wonderful postgrad experience. For instance, the support LSE offers its students or the career success that will come from obtaining an LSE degree and network. However, instead of ruminating on these reasons, I hope you take my word for it and start planning your application for LSE!
