Best spots to eat on campus

If you’re like me and you live at home or somewhere a little further from campus, you might find yourself needing a place to stay in between lectures and classes. I’ve found that it’s important to know the best places to eat around LSE, no matter your situation, as you never know when you’ll need to stay onsite for a little longer. I’ve compiled a list of the best places to eat around LSE that you may or may not know about.

The Student Salon

I first came across the Student Salon in the King’s Chambers by accident. It’s a well hidden gem amongst the other buildings that surround it. With its slightly tinted windows and ambiguous name, it’s easy to mistake this building for something else. But inside the building is a haven for people who need a nice place to microwave their food, and sit comfortably alone or with friends.

Inside you can find a small, cosy, soft seating area with a table, which is perfect for discussions over food with some friends. It’s comfortable and only a few steps away from the microwaves inside the kitchen. If you’d prefer to be alone, there are also some high seated bar stools which form a nice setting to just plug in your earphones and eat away. The room also has a boiling hot water tap which is perfect for when you need to make yourself a hot beverage.

The Undergraduate Common Room

This large space inside the Old Building is another great place to sit and have your lunch. With even more microwaves and seating areas for students, it’s a place that you’ll find many undergraduates sitting and eating in. Again, there are extensive facilities for you to bring your food from home or from the store, and enjoy it with some friends or by yourself. I often find that it’s a nice place to quietly sit and eat my food without too much disruption. Although it’s a common room, it’s not overly noisy, and there are quite a few spaces where you won’t be disturbed while you’re eating.

The Rooftop Terrace

I personally find that the Centre Building is one of the most aesthetically pleasing places on campus. As one of the newer buildings at LSE, it’s very well decorated with plenty of interesting hidden gems. One of my favourites is the rooftop terrace that can be found on the highest floor of the building. Full of greenery and some nice deck chairs and tables, it’s the perfect spot for a summer lunch with your friends. It has wonderful views of the whole of London, which is quite difficult to find, especially on a university campus.

Wrights Bar

The Wrights Bar is a bubbling hub of activity on campus. It serves tasty, hot food at a very affordable price. At this small café, you can be guaranteed that you’ll leave with a smile on your face, and a belly full of warm, lovely food. The Wrights Bar, although open to members of the public, is mostly full of LSE students at any time, due to its location on campus. The staff are incredibly friendly and kind, and the food is cooked in front of you, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

The combination of affordability, tastiness and kind workers makes it the perfect place for a breakfast or lunch when you’re on campus. Make sure that you leave plenty of time before going there though, because it’s so popular that you can often find queues of people inside the store being served. However, because of the great staff and quick processing times, the queue often goes very quickly.

If you’re ever looking for a new spot to eat on campus, why not try out one of these places? You won’t regret eating your lunch in a new place, and it’ll be a welcome break from your studies.

About the author

Cece

My name is Cece and I’m a final year Social Anthropology student here at LSE. I moved to the outskirts of London a few years ago having spent my formative years growing up in the countryside. Throughout my three years at LSE, I’ve lived off campus with my family which has allowed me to have a unique and lovely experience of university. As I draw close to the end of my time here, I’ve very much appreciated studying at the heart of London in one of its most exciting universities. I’m really passionate about all things creative. In my spare time, I’ve always loved to draw, read books and write. I’m currently in the middle of writing a novel, something that I’ve been working on for 3 years. Outside of this, you can usually find me practicing the bass guitar, playing the piano, or singing a tune, all of which I also do most Sundays at my church!
