Thinking in Public Grant

Deadline: 28 April 2017

The Forum is offering funding and support to philosophy departments in the UK interested in organizing a public lecture series in their institution.

The Forum is an educational charity that has been organizing philosophy and interdisciplinary events aimed at a non-specialist audience for twenty years. Our events take various forms but we studiously avoid academic papers. Forum events attract thousands of people every term and our podcasts tens of thousands of listeners. Our events are always open to the public and free to attend.

We are soliciting applications from departments that would like to run a series of public philosophy events in their institution. We are particularly keen on applications that

  • include a sketch of an ideal programme, which makes every effort to represent the full spectrum of academic philosophy as it is practiced in the UK (including both analytic and continental traditions)
  • outline steps that will be taken to ensure the programme will be appropriate for a non-specialist audience
  • demonstrate departmental/institutional support, for example, for podcast recording and theatre availability

We recommend that interested parties visit our archive to get a sense of the kind of events we organize.

Applications, expressions of interest, and any queries should be sent to Dr Elizabeth Hannon (e.hannon[@]lse.ac.uk).
