Applications are open for the LSE Summer Volunteering Scheme for Disabled Students 2022!

Want to stamp out child poverty in the UK, support refugees and humanitarian organisations access translation services, or prepare a meal for a person experiencing social isolation?

If you are a Disabled student at LSE and want to volunteer, look no further!

The Summer Volunteering Scheme for Disabled Students’ goal is to support you in your volunteering.  We are offering 20 roles with 12 charities that work in fields including women’s empowerment, child poverty, food security, educational equality, refugee support, veterans, sustainability, social cohesion and social care.  The roles involve tasks including project management, administration, research, social media and marketing, fundraising, human resources, family liaison, packing and sorting, cooking and befriending!  The placements run for 4-8 weeks between the middle of July and the end of September and require a commitment of 7-14 hours per week.

Volunteering is very rewarding.  However, we realise that it isn’t always accessible.  LSE student volunteers have reported that volunteering has substantially increased their skill-set, professional networks, and well-being, provided students with opportunities to make new friends, and informed students’ career progression.  Most student volunteers have simply enjoyed the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the world and to ‘give back’.  The Summer Volunteering Scheme for Disabled Students was set up in order to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience these benefits.  Participants on the scheme will be supported by Viki Chinn, Careers Consultant for Disabled students, LSE Careers, alongside the LSE Volunteer Centre.  We have recruited 12 charity partners who are committed to making volunteering more accessible for Disabled people.  We are now inviting applications from the LSE student community.  The LSE Volunteer Centre and Viki will recruit you for the charities, brief the charities on adjustment requirements, and act as a port of call for our volunteers and the charities during the summer.  We would love for you to join us!

We strongly encourage applications from students with no or limited volunteering experience.
