South Sudan has had a rocky start in its first year as an independent nation. Strife with Sudan has been a constant feature whether over oil, citizenship or territory. Alex de Waal is the Executive Director of the World Peace Foundation and a Visiting Professor at LSE. In this video, he discusses how unresolved issues from the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement has led to the strife between the two countries.
The problem of Sudan would not be solved by the current governments of Sudan and South Sudan cause both created the problem. Both governments promoted hatred among the people of Sudan. These two governments live into the past. Example, Sudan government encouraged religious law such as sharia. That was a past ideology to govern people. South Sudan government stereotyped of North Sudanese as Arab Origin was another past ideology. when people live into the past, they dont progress
