Department of Government Blog

The Department of Government is running a competition and we want you to get involved!

We invite Government students to share your research, put forward your views and improve your public profile as a political scientist, theorist and writer by entering the LSE Government Blog competition.

First prize

The first prize winner will be invited to become a collaborator for Netivist, an online forum that encourages civic engagement through empowering digital citizens. In your position on the Editorial Board, you will be given the opportunity to write online debates, shape opinions and exert influence on policy-makers, opinion leaders, and governmental and non-governmental organisations.

The winner will have a one-on-one session with an industry professional to discuss academic writing and/or journalism.

The winning submission will also feature on the LSE Government Blog, main website, and social media channels.

Runners up

  • The opportunity to write a debate for Netivist
  • A one-on-one mentoring session with an industry professional:
    – Dr Jose Olivas-Osuna, Editor of LSE Euro-crisis blog and founder of Netivist
    – Dr Nikos Chrysoloras, Greece & Cyprus Bureau Chief at Bloomberg News
  • The submission will also feature on the LSE Government Blog

How to apply

To apply, answer the following question:

What is the biggest challenge in social science today and how could this be solved?

  • Send your answer to gov.blog@lse.ac.uk  by 17.00 on Friday 15 January 2016
  • Your submission must be no more than 1000 words
  • Submissions will be judged by the Head of Department, Professor Chandran Kukathas.
