I am writing a book about the future of journalism, but it keeps changing as I write. Of course, the answer would be to do it online as a wiki but you can’t give your relatives a signed copy of a wiki at Christmas can you? Over the last few days I have been thinking about how journalism can use new applications like Widgets to insert itself in to people’s online lives. Widgets are little screens that live on your PC screen, updating you on the date, time, weather or music and pictures. I notice that the BBC is already widgetted but my favourite football team, West Ham, is not. I quite like the Yahoo version of these little fellas but there are lots of other sources. Let me know if you can think of clever ways that journalism can exploit them, but tell me soon as I’ve nearly finished the chapter…

Not seen this one, but how’s about widgets featuring photos from local newspapers covering neighbourhood events???
Then if people go to the event and write about it on their blog, MySpace page or in Facebook they could feature a collection of photos from the newspaper that simply links back to the paper’s site so people can buy pics if they want to.
Or you could have a feed of pics in a widget on your site or running on your desktop.
