Hi Charlie,
The comments by John Naughton and Emily Bell sum up the sudden dilemma of journalism – that gate-shutting role that was mostly about vagueness (and about imagining oneself as a valued part of the establishment). What we’re seeing is a public suddenly empowered with access to the kind of information most journalists prefer to ignore – citing their instinctive sense of ‘responsibility’. To add any value in such scenarios, journalists are going to have to rethink their concepts of a good product.
