When I was at secondary school I remember saying to my parents “I’ve got plenty of friends, it’s just I don’t think they quite understand me.” They always gave the same response, “wait until you get to university.” At the time I don’t think I believed them and the wait seemed everlasting. However, just in case there is anyone out there today who doesn’t feel quite themselves among their current friends, it is no insult to them or to yourself but rest assured, when you come to LSE you will meet people who understand every bit of your life, every peculiarity you have. When Fresher’s week comes around, don’t panic if you don’t think you’ve found these people yet. In time you will grow into LSE and come to know many faces around campus. Don’t settle for second best. I am so privileged to have come to know friends whom I adore and whom treat me with so much care and compassion. There’s a reason why they call it the pursuit of happiness you know.
