Entertainment in London: a Wicked experience

London has a vibrant art and culture scene. There is so much to experience, and you’re likely to find something that pertains to your interests. A friend and I wanted to watch a musical in the West End and we decided on Wicked. Neither of us had ever watched a musical before so we were quite excited for the experience.

We bought tickets online and the ticket prices are more expensive closer to the date you want to go, so, if possible, plan ahead. You can also make use of websites such as TodayTix which helps you find tickets to plays and musicals the day of the show for a bargain. Because this is an entire experience make sure you choose your seats wisely, think about how close you want to be to the stage and the duration of the show. We chose seats that were very close to the stage and allowed for a lightly restricted view of it because of the props but it wasn’t an issue that spoiled the experience. However, looking back, we would have chosen seats more in the back just to make it more comfortable for us.

We arrived a little early to the venue which gave us a chance to walk around the West End and see what other shows and plays were on. We were also able to beat the lines for snacks and get to our seats before the theater started filling up. As someone who hadn’t watched a musical before, the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. It was amazing to see the level of production that went into the show. The performances were phenomenal and very well deserving of the standing ovation at the end. My friend and I left the venue with wide smiles and a newfound love of musicals.

After watching Wicked, I then started making a list of musicals and plays that I wanted to see while I was in London. There are some amazing shows that you can catch like Hamilton, The Book of Mormon and Six. It’s not just the West End, there are so many plays and concerts that happen in the city every day. The Barbican and the Old Vic Theater always have amazing shows that you can see. For concerts, Ticketmaster is the best way to find out which artist is performing and also the easiest way to buy tickets.

Living in London, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to entertainment. Have fun being entertained!
