As we approach the start of the new term it gives us the opportunity to reflect on Michaelmas Term and some of the incredible volunteering that took place. October saw the return of on campus activity which allowed a wide range of volunteering to take place within the Volunteer Centre and we were so excited to welcome students onto campus that hadn’t been in over two years!

Giving Tuesday

On Tuesday 30th November we hosted Giving Tuesday, is an international day dedicated to giving back to society. But what can you give? Donating money is often the first thing that comes to mind, but you can also give your time (volunteering), share your skills or donate items. With RAG we hosted a number of different events throughout the day for students to get involved with and give back, from pieing one another, making Christmas cards for the children’s hospital as well as bake sales. Check out our blog post to read more about the day!

One off volunteering

Throughout the term we hosted a number of one-off volunteering opportunities for students to get involved with, these provide students with the opportunity to volunteer with out the time commitment of a full volunteer role within a charity. This term saw trip to the HMS Belfast, Greenwich Ecology Park and the Felix Project as well as events on campus, working with LSESU Amnesty and making birthday cards for children with terminal illnesses. Keep an eye out on CareerHub for more one-off opportunities this term!

Charity Tuesday

Over the term we had several charity partners come onto campus, on Tuesdays, and meet LSE students, having value discussions about the work that the charities do as well as the volunteering opportunities they have available. These will hopefully be returning in Lent Term so be sure to take a walk past the library on Tuesdays to check out some of our charity partners.

If this has inspired you to volunteer, check out one of our other ongoing opportunities or book a one-to-one with David Coles, the Volunteer Centre Manager if you have more questions. And why not follow us on Twitter, and Instagram to stay up-to-date with our events and opportunities and read our blog for more volunteering tips and stories.
