‘My experience volunteering on the Community Engagement Programme was excellent. I learnt so many valuable skills and was able to understand how my academic work can create real value for the community. Working with my team I have built connections and relationships with people I wouldn’t otherwise have met at LSE, since we are all from different years and disciplines. This project has helped me to grow and develop as a person, and made me feel more connected to the LSE community. I would absolutely recommend taking part!’ Paris Stott (BSc in Accounting and Finance)

Student applications to the LSE Community Engagement Programme 2023 are now open to all current LSE undergraduates and postgraduates.  Come and join us to make a difference in our communities!  Apply here by 27 November. The LSE Community Engagement Programme 2023 will run for the first 10 weeks of Lent Term (2023)

The LSE Community Engagement Programme is a supported initiative in which teams of LSE students volunteer as consultants for UK and overseas charities.  Each team is given a project brief they must address within 10 weeks, and which focuses on a ‘challenge’ a charity faces.  The teams receive guidance from the LSE Volunteer Centre, other relevant LSE divisions, and an LSE alumni mentor working in a field such as consultancy, research, policy, or the not-for-profit sector.

This year’s projects are from charities operating in the fields of sustainable development, hunger, mental health, women’s rights, educational equity, community-building, inclusion, social care, and saving lives at sea.  The teams will be helping the organisations to improve their reach, their volunteer recruitment strategies, their marketing, strategy, fundraising, and research base, all of which will impact the charities’ efficacy and therefore also the wider world.

Whether you’re interested in helping others, learning more about a cause that sparks your passion, practising or honing your research skills, making new friends, creating professional connections, learning about consultancy, or challenging yourself in new ways, this programme has something for you!
