In this blogpost, we hear from Susan from Home Renaissance Foundation and how LSE student volunteers have gone above and beyond with their organisation. We are resharing this blogpost from 2020 as a fantastic example of how students and organisations work together to make volunteering opportunities meaningful for all parties involved.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to congratulate LSE on its student and alumni volunteer service and to register my thanks for the wonderful work of the two volunteers we have recently benefited from having working with us. Home Renaissance Foundation is a small charity with a big remit: to increase understanding of the value of the life and work of the home to individuals and wider society, through research, policy and training.
Some recent research, the Global Home Index, had yielded three important reports for this work, but we felt that there was more material open to analysis and potential writing up. We posted a request for help with data analysis on the LSE Volunteer Hub and were lucky enough to have first Mia and then Ingrid reply, come to meet us, hear about our vision and the task, and to work separately on the material. The commitment shown by both Mia and Ingrid has been exemplary and “above and beyond” our expectations in terms of quality and dedication.
Mia was able to give us three months, including a day a week in our London office and has worked on the data to the point where it can now be incorporated into a further report. We are very pleased that she is now working for Global Business Promotion Ltd. as a Global Service Manager, based in Taipei, responsible for international semiconductor summits in Asia and Germany, but we miss seeing her each Thursday!
Ingrid initially offered three months, but has continued to work on the questions she derived from our GHI data and has completed a literature and policy review and is now writing a full paper which she will be able to present at a conference this November. This is especially impressive as Ingrid is now working full-time and spends her Saturdays on our project. Ingrid is currently Political Services Intern at Vuelio.
We consider Mia and Ingrid to be the finest adverts for the LSE and for the value and the real difference volunteering can make. We at Home Renaissance Foundation feel very privileged to have met them at this early stage of what we know will be very successful and satisfying careers. We look forward to working with new volunteers from the LSE in the near future.
