Celebrating Trustees’ Week!

This week, we are joining the Charity Commission in celebrating Trustees’ Week, a week dedicated towards recognising the “individual talents, viewpoints and experiences each trustee brings to their board and their collective decision-making and how diversity can help make a charity stronger.” The Charity Commission and Trustees Week have adopted the theme, “Many Voices. Working Together. With Purpose” to help capture the community-based nature of being a trustee, and their commitment towards expanding the meaning of charitable work.

As noted by the Charity Commission, many trustees are volunteers who guide and inform the direction of the charity. This week the Commission reported that there are almost one million trusteeships that oversee the work of nearly 169,000 charities. Trustees can greatly and directly influence the charity sector and are integral to making social impact.

However, trusteeships are not just for individuals with years and years of work experience. Young Trustee Movement reminds us that “intergenerational perspectives enable better decision-making.” While just 3 percent of trustees are under 30, we join the Young Trustee Movement and the Charity Commission in encouraging young people to apply to trusteeships, as they make the charity sector inherently more robust!
