When you’re starting to plan your next steps, we know it can be useful to take time to explore your options, including what experience and skills might be useful to you both now and in the future. You might want to find out about different sectors, reflect on your motivations and interests, or, of course, to develop some key professional skills.

As part of our Summer Offer, ‘Your future. Your way.’, we’re diving into how you can use a range of techniques to explore your options and boost your career planning.Blue image of two students at graduation with text reading Explore and plan

A great place to start…

Not quite sure where to begin when it comes to careers? Book a one-on-one appointment with a Careers Consultant to discuss your options. Already got an idea of which areas you might be interested in? We can help guide you on entry routes and where to look. PhDs, research staff and disabled students can also book an appointment with a specialist careers consultant to discuss more specific careers topics.

Try things out…

Volunteering, internships and shadowing professionals working in the industry are all great ways to get an idea of whether you’d enjoy certain jobs day-to-day. They also can show you the kinds of skills you might need to learn or develop to get similar permanent jobs when you graduate. You can find opportunities like these on our CareerHub vacancy board.

Learn and explore…

If you haven’t yet had the chance to look at the information and resources on our website, check out our advice on how to approach your career planning. We introduce you to our career development cycle (CDC) which offers a practical way to approach your ongoing career management. There’s also a year-by-year guide to help undergraduates plan their time at LSE, and insights into the employment sectors we know many of you are interested in.  You could also check out our blog and be inspired by the wider LSE community.

What’s on at LSE Careers…

If you’re interested in learning more about exploring your options and planning your next career steps, LSE Careers’ Summer Offer features a range of online and in-person events designed to help you do just that!
