The big city of London is a melting pot of different cultures and styles and has been rightfully called a shopaholic’s paradise. However, with so many tempting options for shopping, it can be a little daunting to indulge in some retail therapy while on a student budget. But don’t worry, London has got you covered with its cheap markets and bargain spots which ensure a budget-friendly shopping experience that won’t break the bank!

  1. Covent Garden: A short walk away from LSE, Covent Garden is generally known for its expensive, high-end stores. However, this bustling area also hosts the Apple Market, a hidden gem which sells homeware and handmade craft items at reasonable prices. I love walking around the stalls and finding little trinkets and souvenirs to decorate my room with. Some of the stores also offer discounts on items bought in bulk, and I have built quite a large collection of jewellery through these bargains!
  2. Camden Market: Like the Apple Market, Camden Market contains hundreds of stalls and shops selling unique vintage items and quirky accessories. This market is my personal favourite shopping destination as many of the vendors are open to haggling, and I have managed to find some incredible deals on clothing and jewellery. The nearby food market also offers free samples from many of the food joints, so students can complete their retail therapy with some cheap grub.
  3. Oxford Street: The iconic Oxford Street has several stores that cater to the financially savvy. With budget-friendly fashion retailers like Primark, H&M, Bershka, and other, students can find the latest trends without breaking the bank. These stores are perfect for updating your wardrobe and staying fashion-forward while saving money. With multiple outlets of each store being located within walking distance of each other, I like to spend my time browsing through the sale sections to score the best deals without straining my wallet. Also, many of these stores offer discounts for first-time shoppers and students, so make sure to ask a salesperson to get the best deals!
  4. Shopping centres: Although shopping malls in London may appear to be high-end shopping complexes, places such as Westfield and the newly opened Battersea Power Station offer several discounts and packages specifically for students. Spanning several levels, these shopping centres are a haven for high-street brands and offer the newest styles at reasonable costs. Keep an eye out for sale seasons where you can score special deals.
  5. Outlet shopping: London’s outlet malls are a treasure trove for brand fans on a tight budget. For great savings on premium brands like Calvin Klein, Nike, Levi’s and more, head to the London Designer Outlet in Wembley, or the ICON Outlet at The O2. Here, you can get premium goods without paying exorbitant prices, making luxury affordable for students.
  6. Sustainable shoppping: No list of budget-friendly shopping in London would be complete without the mention of charity shops, the pinnacle of sustainable buying! Shop at London’s charity stores to support the environment and the community while embracing sustainable fashion. These shops, which range from Save the Children to the British Heart Foundation, provide a wide selection of previously owned clothes, accessories, books, and home goods at incredibly low costs. Various areas in London contain a myriad of these thrift shops within proximity of each other. I love going to Brick Lane, especially on Sundays, which offers a plethora of vintage and retro items which are trendy and affordable. This area also hosts stalls from local artists and designers, who often sell their items at reasonable prices allowing students to support young emerging talent!

London offers a plethora of retail therapy options for students on a budget. Whether you’re into vintage finds, unique crafts, or trendy fashion, there’s a spot for you in this vibrant city. So, unleash your inner shopaholic, embark on a retail adventure, and enjoy the thrill of discovering hidden gems on a student budget in London.
