Nicholas Bunnin obtained an AB from Harvard College and a D.Phil. from University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He taught at the Universities of Glasgow and Essex and is currently Director of the Philosophy Project at the Institute for Chinese Studies, University of Oxford.
Since 1988 he has been Chairman of the British Committee of the Philosophy Summer School in China and a member of the Executive Committee of the Royal Institute of Philosophy.
With E P Tsui-James, he edited the Blackwell Companion to Philosophy(Oxford: Blackwell 1996; second edition, 2003). With Jiyuan Yu, he compiled a Dictionary of Western Philosophy: English and Chinese(Beijing: People’s Publishing House, 2001) and The Blackwell Dictionary of Western Philosophy (Oxford: Blackwell, 2004). With Chung-ying Cheng he edited the Blackwell Guide to Contemporary Chinese Philosophy (Oxford: Blackwell, 2002)
