These talks will explore conceptually two central features of modern democracy: public opinion and the political party. Both are widely conceived in terms of the aggregation of units, be it opinions, preferences, interests, or another. In discussion we shall examine some of the presuppositions of such accounts, whether there exist alternatives, and whether these alternatives are recommendable.
