Welcome to the LSE or welcome back!

The LSE Volunteer Centre is here to help you find rewarding volunteering opportunities for causes you are passionate about, during your time at LSE. In this blogpost, you can read more about how you can best prepare for your arrival to LSE, from signing up to our newsletter to booking a one-to-one support meeting!

1. Meet the team and read about how we can support you

Check out our blogpost from earlier this week which details who we are and what the Volunteer Centre can do to support your journey at the LSE! As a student-supporting organisation, we aim to inspire and empower the LSE community to volunteer for causes they are passionate about. You can also book one-to-one appointments with David, the Volunteer Centre Manager, on Monday afternoons and Thursday mornings through LSE CareerHub where we can talk about how to get involved in volunteering during your time here.

2. Connect with us on social media (@LSEVolunteering)

We highly recommend connecting with us on social media to get the latest updates on volunteering opportunities, as well as other happening with the Volunteer Centre. You can find us on Instagram, Twitter, and Threads at @LSEVolunteering. You can also check out our blog which highlights the great voluntary work that LSE students complete, adding to various debates within the voluntary sector. We also give tips on how to start volunteering.

3. Check out CareerHub and get familiar with the kinds of opportunities available

If you want to become more familiar with the kinds of opportunities we help promote or the charities we collaborate with, you can log onto CareerHub and search “volunteering opportunities.” More information on how to log into CareerHub can be found on the LSE Careers page.

4. Sign up to our newsletter and WhatsApp Community

Sign up for the Volunteer Centre newsletter by logging in to your LSE CareerHub account, going to preferences and selecting ‘volunteering’ under service. We’ll keep you up to date with all the volunteering news on campus and our opportunities of the week email. You can also join our WhatsApp Community for ongoing updates on our events and opportunities, as well as Q&A support!

5. Put the Volunteering Fair in your diary

Our annual Volunteering Fair will take place on 2 October, 2023, where students will have the opportunity to meet with over 40 charities. More information on how our Fair, as well as how to sign up, can be found on CareerHub!

6. Apply to be a Student Volunteering Ambassador

Our Student Volunteering Ambassador role is for students who have a passion for making a difference through volunteering and believe in the benefits and impact of taking part. Becoming an SVA is an opportunity to volunteer with organisations, the LSE community and inspire others. Applications will be open from 17th August till 11.59 on 3rd September 2023. You can find out more about the role on CareerHub, and apply on there, or by joining our information session on September 1st, via Zoom at 3.30pm. You can register for the information session here!

If you are already inspired to volunteer, check out one of our other ongoing opportunities or book a one-to-one with David Coles, the Volunteer Centre Manager if you have more questions. And why not follow us on Twitter, and Instagram to stay up-to-date with our events and opportunities and read our blog for more volunteering tips and stories.
