On 25 March 2021, the LSE London Deputy Director, Prof. Christine Whitehead, assisted by Martina Rotolo, gave the first lecture in a series on Housing affordability and the City organised by Marco Peverini of the Politecnico di Milano and Rebecca Cavicchia of the Norwegian University of Life Sciences Oslo. The conference series aims to explore the challenges and opportunities of housing affordability through the contribution of international scholars on related topics and different case studies. On this occasion, the topic was the post-Covid housing market in London. Many of the participants were involved in urban and planning research, so the conference was largely based on observing the housing market in the context of the local economy and in particular the many relationships between housing and office and retail activity. After outlining the pre-housing trends and what has happened during the pandemic, Prof. Christine Whitehead discussed some of the main factors that will determine the direction of London. The lecture was followed by almost an hour of very active discussion.
