Digital education in disruptive times

In a change from previous years, the dilemma about whether we should continue to hold a practitioner conference that highlights the role of digital technologies is not up for discussion this year. It is the discussion!

At the end of an exhausting 2021 academic year, it’s time to reflect and share our experiences and learn new practices so we can offer the best possible educational experience to our hard-hit students. The 19th Academic Practice and Technology Conference (APT), co-hosted by UCL, LSE, and Imperial College, will feature a variety of presentations on research papers, work in progress, case studies, and field reports;  workshops; and keynote addresses by Professor Alejandro Armellini and Anish Bagga. The co-hosted nature of the conference is one of its key features and stands as proof of the importance of cross-institutional collaboration and the synergies that derive from working with colleagues across the sector.

This year, the theme for the conference is `Reflecting for the future; higher education in disruptive times.’ Our focus is on four main sub-themes: staff and student experience; building new communities and developing new identities; the brave new university; and, the impact on diverse communities. We invite participants to join with others to critically reflect on, share, and evaluate their plans and experiences during this year. We call upon practitioners in further and higher education to share their good and bad experiences, so that we can learn much from one another. We encourage participants to co-author presentations with students as we believe that much can be learnt from the shared experiences of students and staff in developing future scenarios of higher education. The deadline for submissions closes on 14 May.
