It’s been a very interesting week already for the polls. While Labour stays steady at 31 per cent in both our measure and Sky’s, the Conservatives have dropped by one point in each measure to 38 and 37 per cent support. There has been no movement by the Liberal Democrats – they’re still on 20 per cent, but the Other parties have gained one percentage point by each measure, since Monday, to 11 and 12 per cent.

Looking at specific polls, it seems that 40 per cent remains elusive for the Tories. Populus and ComRes polls both have them on 36 per cent this week – and that same Populus poll has Labour on 33 per cent, a very narrow gap last seen in the last week of March. This will be especially worrying for the Tories, who only last week were touching the 39-40 per cent mark. At Conservative HQ they will be hoping that their election manifesto released yesterday, will help to strengthen their erratic polling lead.
