On/Off Her Way Home

by Wen Wen

The legendary sea surfaces

That meteoric stones have rolled over

An establishing shot, takes only one flash

Thinking of you, murmuring to you,

Until some tears run dry, turning reddish

Dipping upon a dream (many nights)

Once thinking of you, she is

Across the water of no name

Looking out the way back to you, she is

Still writing in English (how?):

‘Travelling around the world

From the […]

Clubbing without the club

by Nina Bo Wagner

NB: see at the bottom of this article for a mix from the London rave scene, for optional listening while reading.

The club as a location would seem inherent to clubbing. However, during lockdown in London these locations were made unavailable. As a result, clubbing temporarily moved exclusively online. At this time, I wanted to undertake documenting queer […]

Daily Exercise

By Becka White

A slightly different route today for our daily exercise. My six-year-old’s school has invited us to collect some seeds ‘to plant in the garden’. I tell my son they forgot to add ‘or on the windowsill’. I wonder how many other flat-dwelling parents noticed this wording – after all, one in five households in London don’t have […]

Feminist Movements Around the World: Creating feminist community during COVID-19

by Milena D’Atri

When I decided to come to London to do my masters in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic, I knew it was going to be hard. A big reason for why I chose LSE was the international community that characterises this university: I was excited to learn about feminist politics from all over the globe and connect […]

Aborting in Isolation: Observations on Argentine abortion activism during COVID-19

By Lea Happ[1]

Over the past months, as Argentina has been in lockdown due to COVID-19, the feminist network Socorristas en Red has tried to make people’s experience of abortion as safe as possible. The Socorristas, literally translating to ‘lifesavers’, is a feminist network dedicated to improving the safety of criminalised abortions. They frame their work as supporting those who […]

The Impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic on Refugee Women and Girls

The Impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic on Refugee Women and Girls

by Angelina Dash

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to expose power disparities in society, it has become clear that refugees[1] are experiencing a unique set of challenges as a result of the health crisis. Images from refugee camps in Greece and Bangladesh raise questions about how far social distancing is possible for refugees. Further, language barriers and a fear of […]

Gender and disability in informal settlements during COVID-19: What we have learnt so far

by Ignacia Ossul-Vermehren

How are women, in particular disabled women, affected by COVID-19 in informal settlements in the global South? Although there is a range of information emerging (in addition to what we can extrapolate from previous health crises), in reality it is difficult to know, at this stage, the extent to […]

When COVID-19 Becomes a Political Ally: Poland’s Law on Abortion

When COVID-19 Becomes a Political Ally: Poland’s Law on Abortion

by Selen Eşençay

On April 15, the Polish Parliament enacted the “Stop Abortion” bill. However, the Sejm decided to redirect the bill for further review in parliamentary committees. Although the bill was not a primary project of the Polish Government, the governing Law and Justice Party (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość) was criticized for taking advantage of COVID-19 restrictive measures by trying to pass […]

With the outbreak of COVID-19, the idea of the ‘home’ as a safe space has received significant attention. As we struggle with the challenges posed by an unfamiliar disease, the thought of ‘home’ comforts many of us with its sense of familiarity.  It is reassuring to believe that when the world […]
